Athens Running Company's Fit Process

Fit Process BioMechanics & Fit Trail Vs Road

Communication

The first step of our fit process is communication. Talking to our clients about their running history, past injuries, previous shoes, and many other topics is the most important step in fitting footwear. If we didn't take the time to understand our clients, then we would never be able to do our job. The more knowledge we can gain about our clients, the more likely we are to recommend the correct shoe. It is even better if one can bring in their old shoes so that we can look at the wear patterns on the sole.

The Aetrex foot Scanner

The next step in the fit process is to put our client on our advance foot scanner. Our foot scanner is a very important tool that gives us vital information. It shows our client's arch type, weight distribution, foot size, and much more. The foot scanner is useful but it does not tell the whole story. It does show us enough information to bring out the first pair of shoes for our client to use on the treadmill.

Video Gait Analysis

After we decide on the first shoe, we video tape our clients running on a treadmill in the shoe we provide for about 15 seconds. What sets us apart from our competition is that we actually record and save the videos. This allows us to not only be able to bring the videos back up at a later date and time, but more importantly, allows us to view the video in slow motion or frame by frame. This makes the process much more accurate because we can view the exact moment when our clients weight is transferred to their foot to better observe their biomechanics. The information we receive from the first shoe helps us to determine what to bring out next. If we like what we see, then we will bring out more shoes in that level of stability, or if need be bring out a more stable shoe. Once we decide upon a category of shoe, we allow our clients to try on every shoe we have in that category. Most clients end up with at least three different options that will work for them.

Final Test

Once us and our client find a shoe that works, we always ask for them to run outside on the sidewalk to get a real world feel for the shoe. We make sure our clients have proper room in the shoe and that the fit is perfect. At this point, if the client is a candidate for orthotics we will try a pair on now.
